This exciting and innovative new production will draw on the body of
musical, artistic and poetic works inspired by the biblical figure Mary
Magdalen through the ages. This live event will be a combination of
sophisticated new music and stunning visuals celebrating her mythical
life
and times.
In this production, Magdalen's 7 key appearances in the Gospels will be
woven into a magical 7 scene performance. In each of the 7 scenes a
superlative cast of musicians and artists will present
reinterpretations of
ancient scriptures in brand new musical moulds. Captivating narrative
and
stunning visuals will reveal the true meaning behind dramatic scenes,
including The Stoning of the Adulterous Woman, the Crucifixion, and the
famous Garden Scene where Magdalen encounters the risen Jesus. Stories
of Magdalen's apochryphal life, her ethiopian origins, her relationship
with Christ, and her new life as a spiritual leader in France after his
death, will also be part of the story to be told.

Elis [To be confirmed]
Elis Regina was one of the most beautiful voices Brazil has ever produced.
In the late 60šs and early 70šs she was the voice of the people, a young
girl who rose from very average lower-class beginnings to quickly become one
of the most well-known, well-loved and well-paid entertainers in her
country's history. She was nicknamed "Furacao" (hurricane!) and
"Pimentinha"! (little pepper!) because of her boundless energy and
tempestuous drive. Her first name became a household word and several of her
records are simply titled "Elis".
Through her coverage of their songs, several of her country's most prominent
composers were first introduced to the limelight. Her public would
anxiously await the release of her new record in stores to see how she would
record a certain song and what musical surprises she had in store. She was a
partner to composers, musicians and arrangers, and her nickname was "Queen
Midas" because everything she sang turned to pure gold.
In this very special stage production, Brazilian artists will gather together for the first time to celebrate the musical gift
Elis gave to the world. Not so much a simple narrative of her life, instead
in this concert Elis' spirit will be invoked by her music, by evocative
anecdotes and memories from her family and colleagues, and by classic archive
footage of Elis herself woven into the performance tantalizing glimpses of
this fascinating woman, speaking intimately about the meaning of the songs
being performed. 'Elis' will be an evening of glorious Brazilian music at
its best.
